‘It’s about handing over power’

BCC member, Jade Foster participated in a panel discussion during a morning symposium hosted by Art Fund in celebration of the launch of ‘It's about handing over power': the impact of ethnic diversity initiatives on curatorial roles in the UK arts and heritage sector 1998-2021. The report, undertaken by Museum X in collaboration with Culture&, documents over two decades of career development programmes aimed at diversifying the sector and how they have mainly failed. A set of recommendations have been put forward to be actioned unilaterally across the field. Art Fund has published a funders pledge alongside a group of other funders, committing to the report’s recommendations.

Black Curators Collective and our work is highlighted in the report as an example of a Black-led initiative currently operating within the UK. The full report can be downloaded here.
